Kachoris of Delhi

Delhi serves two distinct kachori styles, khasta dal kachori with fiery aloo subzi, and flat kachoris topped with chole. A decade of eating at Shri Ganesh Corner has made it personal. Rated 8.5/10.

There are two types of kachoris mainly served in Delhi.

The first: dal kachoris with aloo subzi (super spicy). The second: flat kachoris (somewhat a larger mathri) with a layer of spicy chole and chutneys on top.

From what I've seen, the latter are available on the north and west side of Delhi, while the dal kachoris are more prominent in east & south Delhi. Dal kachoris are available throughout the city though.

How to Eat Them

I have been having the khasta kachoris (dal kachoris) with aloo subzi. There should be a crisp but also a doughy bite (that's what a good kachori is).

Ideally eat it super hot, as it comes out of the kadhai (the big utensil in which the kachoris are cooked). Some people eat it separately; some break it into pieces and pour piping hot aloo subzi on top. Both are valid.

It's been a decade since I've been eating kachori from a place called Shri Ganesh Corner, right next to Laxmi Nagar metro station. It starts at around 7am and tastes absolutely amazing. We get it from the place, and my whole family eats it.

Places to Try

  • Fateh Chand Ki Kachori: absolutely amazing, but not served with aloo subzi; it's the flat kachori kind
  • Shri Ganesh Corner, Laxmi Nagar
  • Jung Bahadur Kachori Wala (JB), Chandni Chowk

A bit of nostalgia involved, but my rating of Delhi kachoris is 8.5/10.
